Are you Being Served?

Atlantic Business Magazine, April 23, 2001 online issue

Yup, it’s getting on to lunch time, so I’m particularly susceptible to any website dedicated to one of life’s greatest passions (mine anyway). And this site is not just any food site, it’s a gourmand’s dream of gastronomical delights. We’re talking “fine” dining, complete with chef’s hints, recipes and bio’s of some of Atlantic Canada’s most masterful culinary artists. Planning a trip through Atlantic Canada? Wondering where to find some simply scrumptious vittles en route? With this site, you can browse through eating establishments not just by province, but also within each province by region. I would have liked to see a better classification according to menu, prices and type of establishment, but this gives you a good heads up. The section on Chef’s Tips was a treat in itself. You get to read about each chef, find out where they were trained and where they are working now as well as discover some of their “menu bombs” and cooking hints. The really novel part of the site is that it is building up an online menu of restaurants where patrons can place their orders in advance. I couldn’t tell if this was for home delivery, or if you were actually making a restaurant reservation, complete with advance food order. But, as it’s a new service with only one participating restaurant so far, I’m sure that this will become clearer. The only thing missing from the site is an official food critic. It’s a tough job for sure, but I’m up for it :-).
