Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup salted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • colored sprinkles or sugar

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 325º F.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour and salt with a wire whisk.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla, and beat until well mixed.
  5. Scrape down sides of bowl, then add the flour mixture. Blend on low speed just until combined.
  6. Gather dough into a ball. Flatten the ball into a disk and wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate 1 hour or until firm.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. With cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets.
  9. Decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles.
  10. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes, being careful not to brown.
  11. Immediately transfer cookies with a spatula to a cool flat surface.
  12. Enjoy!
