Healthy Alternative Recipes
Cranapple Crisp

Ingredients

  • 5 baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced(6 cups/1.5L)
  • 1 12-oz/340 g package frozen cranberries, or 2 1/2 cups/625 ml fresh
  • ½ cup brown sugar

    Topping:
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup soft non-hydrogenated margarine, cold
  • ¾ cup oatmeal mix or large flaked rolled oats

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine apples, cranberries and sugar. 
  2. Place in a lightly oiled 13 X 9 inch/3.5 L baking dish.
  3. To make topping, in a medium bowl, combine flours with sugar and cinnamon. 
  4. Cut in margarine with your fingertips, two knives or a pastry blender until it is in tiny bits. (This can be done in a food processor.) 
  5. Stir in oatmeal mix. Sprinkle mixture over fruit.
  6. Bake in a preheated 350F/180C oven for 1 hour, or until apples are very tender and fruit is bubbling.
