Healthy Alternative Recipes
Asiago Drop Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/3 cup soft non-hydrogenated margarine, cold
  • 2/3 cup grated Asiago, Cheddar or smoked mozzarella cheese
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine all-purpose, whole wheat flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda. Stir together well. (If baking powder or baking soda are lumpy, sift ingredients together.)
  2. Cut margarine into flour mixture until it is in tiny bits. 
  3. Stir in grated cheese.
  4. Pour buttermilk over flour mixture and stir until a rough batter is formed.
  5. Drop batter in 16 mounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake in a preheated 425F/220C oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
