Asiago Drop Biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/3 cup soft non-hydrogenated margarine, cold
- 2/3 cup grated Asiago, Cheddar or smoked mozzarella cheese
- 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
Method
- In a large bowl, combine all-purpose, whole wheat flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda. Stir together well. (If baking powder or baking soda are lumpy, sift ingredients together.)
- Cut margarine into flour mixture until it is in tiny bits.
- Stir in grated cheese.
- Pour buttermilk over flour mixture and stir until a rough batter is formed.
- Drop batter in 16 mounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in a preheated 425F/220C oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
